  • Huh, never saw this one but in high school I had a dream just like this. I met a beautiful woman, perfect in every way, we got married had some kids, I even got some ways into middle age. Then, I was sitting in chair and noticed that my vision seemed… blurry at the edges, in a very “vignette filter” kind of way and I immediately knew I was dreaming. Woke up just as the existential collapse started. For several years after I’d try to remember her face, what our love had felt like, any of the details that had seemed so solid and tantalizing real for those few sleeping hours.

In retrospect, a lot like that Rick and Morty episode with the life simulator game. I wonder if one of the writers ever had that dream too? Brains are weird, and I haven’t any dreams nearly that all encompassing since.

  • I like these things but there are IPAs, peppers, and asses out there that I wouldn’t eat. I understand how it could be confusing though, when sometimes I say “this beer tastes like (bad) ass” or “this IPA is badass” or “eating this asshole is fire” or “this pepper is going to light my asshole on fire”.

  • It’s a massive pain in the ass, but every American should freeze their credit with the 3 agencies. Their websites are shit, they will sign you up for credit card ads no matter what you click, and every bit of the process will make you seethe with rage at how fucked and incompetent the whole system is. But go do it anyway.

I did it last year after the state DMV was hacked and lost every personal detail for basically everyone in the state who drives. It was real nice not having a loan taken out in my name a few months later when Experien called me out of the blue to ask if I really wanted to unfreeze.

I also did have to legit take out a loan later and it was easy. Just call one of the agencies and do a temporary unfreeze for 24 hours. Amazingly, they let you unfreeze to take out more loans very simply. Wonder why it’s so hard to freeze in the first place? Almost like they don’t give a shit who’s creating the debts as long as some poor somewhere can be held to account for it.

  • Big news sites will do things like write up a story announcing a presidential win for each of the candidates, then only publish the one that matters after the election. This way they can have a story on the front page within minutes (seconds these days) of having official results.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Vox had 1 of these lined up for each of the likely VP picks. If not that, it certainly wouldn’t be unusual for a journalist to do their homework on all of the candidates and to have the rough outline and some key facts ready to go for each. If you’ve already done most of the research, assembling the final story shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours.
