The outrage is telling. Hogg is making an effort to introduce fresh faces and ideas at the primary level. This gives Democrats a chance to choose which ideas they want to go into play in congress. That is all.

If those voters are happy with what they currently have, the incumbent is safe. If not, those new ideas go up against opposing ideas. If a plurality like those ideas, they get to see them play out in congress. The only risk here is that they lose the seat.

Since at the moment, he’s doing this in reliably blue districts, the risk is lower than elsewhere. This is a recipe for real change in the Democratic party for the better.

The only reason to fight against it so hard (that I see) is the protection of individuals’ comfort at the expense of the welfare of our nation. It’s evidence of moral rot in the the party that is threatened by true representation of the citizens’ needs.

I support Hogg’s efforts - as long as he does not have the morality of “boss Hogg”. (For the kids out there who have no idea of what i mean, find and watch a season of The Dukes Of Hazzard.)

The fact that Trump has not already been removed from office on the basis of violating the constitution tells me he’s already won.

There are no consequences to ignoring the rule of law, so he will simply continue. Since there are no consequences to ignoring law, he will simply cancel elections. Who’s gonna stop him? He’s already declared himself king and few even shrugged.

It’s over. The only thing left is a violent uprising. Pretty soon even saying that will be enough to put the speaker in prison as a terrorist.

I feel this is the best first choice. I fear i will end up emigrating as a refugee rather than by choice after this path. The level of surveillance is highly sophisticated such that i can be individually identified by facial recognition even if I’m careful about cell phone security.

This is a government that almost certainly will go after identified protesters, so i cannot do this until i have a peer group that can support me. That’s what i need to find now.

Any countries out there willing to take in an American who lived in France for a while, is sane, reasonably intelligent, and does not think he’s better than everybody else?

I think I might have lost my country, could use a good home and community. Skilled software engineer, so i won’t be a burden.

Trump shut down the CDC and NIH just in time. Any further delay and he’d have risked failing to maintain his tradition of enabling pandemics during his regimes. He could have missed out on inflicting some death and suffering - that was close!

I’m afraid many of my peers here lack the education to know what Vichy is, and thus would lampoon the article they did not read based on the title with smug superiority.

The world in which a 10 and 8 year old walking home from the neighborhood playground are reported to the police and their mother is legally accused of neglect, thus possibly having those kids go into foster care. Then there’s they 10 year old who walked to the local convenience store only to be picked up by the police, driven home to mom, and a couple hours later she was arrested for neglect.

That world.

They cannot celebrate his conviction because that would undermine their assertion that the trump trial was rigged.

In a twisted way, their reaction makes sense, and for me, was predictable. The cult must be constantly managed for it to remain intact.

Many many years ago I realized that there would be no social security by the time I retired. Lo and behold Social Security will only pay 70% of its dues 3 years before I retire.

The good news is I’ve been saving for retirement since the age of 25. The bad news is there’s been a plethora of problems that have restricted my ability to save.

Thankfully, I I’m in a way better place than most people. Unfortunately I am still going to fall short.

Remember that just five years ago, Trumpcsigned a tax bill that gave the wealthiest amongst us a collective two trillion dollar tax cut that cost me the home interest and local tax deductions i depended upon. My crime was living in a “blue state”.

This is a muddled message. Are we caught up chasing an illusion, or are we just more acutely aware of our poor condition?

It reads like it is saying the former, but then quotes statistics that reflect real loss of buying power. On the coasts 100k is no longer a large income. People really do live paycheck to paycheck while carefully managing their spending.

I’m inclined to at least partially acknowledge the gaslighting comment as plausible.
