  • $2 Trillion was more than the discretionary budget of the US. It literally couldn’t be done.

Which is why it was a stupid promise and literally anyone with any expertise could tell you that. Which shows you how unserious Musk is about this.

Now that he cut the promise in half and it’s still politically impossible but not literally impossible, I reiterate my request…say how you plan to do it. Give us a rough idea what programs are being cut, even the easiest 20%.

By having the conversation about the number alone, we’re buying his political premise. The money is not there for no reason, these are democratically popular government programs, that’s why they exist. So which popular programs are you getting rid of to save this money?

  • Googling this, it seems like he’s trying to EMPHASIZE Harris working there when she was younger. If he actually does this, it will backfire spectacularly.

If he says she’s lying about working there, it just looks like an insane conspiracy theory because it’s one of the most common jobs. It’s not like an impossible thing.

If he tries to say it’s easy so no one should be impressed with her, he just insults every fast food worker in America.

I think this is a really smart move if he never mentions Harris, it makes him look more down to Earth and humble which…he needs. If he’s doing it as a commentary on Harris, it’s going to backfire.

  • I’m highly suspicious of the results, as you should always be when a group with a stated political goal releases a poll that shows their favored political goal is what a politician should do.

You have to think there was bias in the presentation, eg the question was framed particularly softly like “if Kamala announced she would abide by current US law including the Leahy Law suspending arms shipments until there is a ceasefire which would save the lives of civilians on both sides” or whatever…that is all 100% true and consistent with what they’re saying, but in real life if she did that she’d get millions of dollars of negative ads framing the decision differently.

Or maybe they just ran the poll 5 times and didn’t release the others because this one was the best result for them. That doesn’t make it an illegitimate poll, but it makes it more likely that the numbers are the high end of the potential benefit from such a stance.

One other way this poll could be true but misleading is that maybe this declaration brings her from 44% to 49%, but it puts Trump from 40% to 51%. Or whatever. It’s possible that with no clarity, she goes from 44% to 52% because you can’t literally vote undecided, and the 49% number is actually her doing worse than she would have.
