The media and online punditry seem far more happy to obsess over a few Hamas-flag-waving protesters outside than to listen to experienced doctors relay the horrors they saw in Gaza. What a shocker.

A better approach I think is voting more progressive thinkers into congress and other places of power and authority.
And as we have seen, true progressives have been repeatedly pushed from the ticket in favor of establishment-friendly centrists time and time again. The two-party duopoly won’t allow it.

It’s hard enough for third parties to offer voters an alternative to the two main parties without the duopoly actively blocking what little financial support they have.
To be fair, they call themselves The Satanic Temple. If they didn’t want to court the “dark messenger” notoriety in the first place, they would just call themselves something serious like The Humanist Society.

I think Tlaib did a decent job at giving some kind of pushback, but it was particularly galling to see Moskowitz stand up and repeat Israeli propaganda without anyone calling him out on it.
In his speech, he alluded to misinformation that was debunked over a month ago: that the numbers from the Gaza Health Ministry were allegedly unreliable and that the numbers of dead civilians had recently been halved by the UN. Neither of these things were true, and so therefore he was either lying on Israel’s behalf or he didn’t care enough to do the appropriate research.
Yes, to be fair I now see the LA Times did mention it. Fair play to them, as I’ve read several articles about this incident and this the first time I’ve seen the reason for the protest actually included in the article.

Both you and the other commenter are right: local news often features better journalism than national news outlets, however the US is currently undergoing a mass extinction of local news organizations. “News deserts” are quickly becoming a thing.
This isn’t a new phenomenon. Netanyahu was already deeply unpopular before October 7th and large scale protests have happened before.
However, it’s important to note that these are not anti-war protests. Most Israelis still support the military action in Gaza; They’re just protesting the fact that Netanyahu hasn’t done a good enough job of bringing the hostages home.
They allowed the family of an Israeli hostage on stage. Why not afford Palestinian Americans the same courtesy to have one of their own represented? Hell, they could have stood alongside the hostage’s family to show solidarity and hope for peace in the future.
The Uncommitted movement did everything the “right way” – they went through the official channels and offered the DNC a list of speakers and gave them permission to vet the speech however they wanted. But apparently that was still too big of an ask.
