My grandmother recently died. Her son and his awful wife couldn’t wait to swoop in and take all her stuff. I actually didn’t mind though. They took all the tvs and old fur coats. Me and my brother got the pictures they left on the walls and the silly fridge magnets she liked. I think we ended up with the better stack of stuff at the end of the day.

I’m in central Florida. In 2016 and 2020 there were plenty of trump signs and shit all over. Today, Except for one billboard on i-275 complaining about grocery prices, there’s really nothing. Enthusiasm for Trump, even among his diehards, has seriously waned.

I understand it too. I felt the same way about Biden before he dropped out. Yeah, I was still gonna vote for him but… I certainly wasn’t gonna be over the moon to do so. Compared to kamala who I’m actually happy to vote for. The Republicans schlonged themselves I think.

And thank God for that. The only things that live forever are cancers.

The thing is, without gerrymandering they’d still have a majority of seats. They’re not content with that though. Why have 57% of the seats when you could have 79% and be completely inoculated from consequences or the feedback of any constituencies?

I tossed in $10. As a Floridian, it’s the least I can do. An exampl needs to be set that if you do the right thing and stand up to these assholes, people will have your back.

On one hand, yes. On the other hand, it’s an expected outcome when moderate Republicans are driven from their party and seek refuge in the next closest party, the dems. The Democrat party will tack right wards a bit for the next few years just because the voters flocking to them now are by nature more conservative. If and when Maga dies or the republican party splinters, those more conservative people will leave the dems and the party will be pulled leftward again by the remaining members.

When you realize all the people you admired for their love of freedom actually just meant the freedom to be an asshole… That’s a hard lesson to learn.

I stopped donating after the debate. I sent a donation today for 3x my usual. If they only respond to money, then withholding it is the only way to make them listen.

The result of this is that the only people who can get into office are literally perfect or they’re very good at hiding their activities. You leave no room for normal people with varying levels of flaws and foibles and ‘weird’ interests to participate.

My browsing history is my business, not yours or anyone else’s. You may as well start asking for my correspondence history, a record of the content of my private conversations, etc…

I understand the danger that bad actors posing as normal candidates pose. Trust me, I’ve dealt with it first hand. But throwing out huge swathes of otherwise qualified candidates because they aren’t willing to share every piece of their personal life is not the remedy.

I’m an elected state official in Florida at the extremely local level. Fuck off with that. People don’t need to know my browsing history. It’s entirely possible to judge someone’s fitness by the acts they take in office alone.

A runner that trains in a state of the art facility with a nutritionist and physiotherapist on call 24/7 will inherently have an advantage over a runner from a poor country that trains in their spare time at the local high school track. Acting like air conditioning is a step too far is silly.

I worry about Republicans taking power and using the trump trials as an excuse to put together kangaroo courts in places like Texas and Florida to actually do the sorts of politically based prosecutions that they’re whining about now. That should never be a reason to not uphold the law though. We cannot let ourselves be held hostage by what bad actors might do in the future.

Which removing the appointed prosecutor would render moot, which they’ve already done.

Their argument is that the case was only brought so that the prosecutor would be hired and then kick back money to the DA. It’s laughable on its face.

My town is building a shit load of apartments and townhomes. Everyone on nextdoor hates it. I can’t entirely disagree either since infrastructure is lagging far behind for all the new residents.
