ObjectivityIncarnate@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•There’s No Such Thing as a Good Billionaire11·6 months agocould solve a lot of world issues and still have enough money left over to not know what to do with it.
There is no world issue that can be solved by just throwing money at it. Those issues have had MUCH more money thrown at them than all of the net worth of all billionaires on Earth combined, without being solved.
It’s just not that simple.
ObjectivityIncarnate@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•There’s No Such Thing as a Good Billionaire6·6 months agoThe guy who founded Costco and was its CEO up until a few years ago is this, if not very close. A business lauded for both how it treated its workforce, and its customers. Basically no turnover unless someone retires.

So who’s really dumb, here?
ObjectivityIncarnate@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Biden commutes most federal death row sentences to life in prison before Trump takes office.23·7 months agoIt’s also surprising how the pro life and pro death penalty people are the same people usually.
It shouldn’t be. There is actually no contradiction or mutual exclusivity between the two; it only seems that way because of how the former viewpoint is labeled (it was definitely a PR move to call it “pro life” instead of “anti abortion”, which is a more accurate description of the stance).
Pro lifers believe the unborn are morally equivalent to the newly born, and therefore believe killing/destroying (depending on your perspective) the unborn is equivalent to murder (defined as ‘undeserved killing/execution’), since the unborn is innocent by definition. And because they, like everyone else, believe murder is immoral, they also believe abortion is immoral.
This does not conflict at all with being in favor of the death penalty for someone guilty of a major crime against humanity, because such a person is not innocent, unlike the unborn child.
In fact, on another axis, these two stances are actually in perfect alignment (except in cases of rape, etc. which I believe is why many pro lifers do in fact make exceptions for those cases, being okay with abortion then), in that they both come from the mindset of ‘you must take responsibility and be held accountable for your actions’.
Hope that clears things up a bit.

It is racist to say “White people are Z”, period. If 100% of Z are white people, that changes nothing.
This is very basic logic you’re failing at. Think about it.
ObjectivityIncarnate@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Undocumented Chinese men say they're baffled by Trump's reported plans to deport them first4·7 months ago“All strawberries are fruits” does not imply “all fruits are strawberries” .
Saying “white people are a threat” is not the same as saying “these people who are a threat are white”.
The former is the statement you agreed with, and now you’re desperately trying to paint it as the latter.
It’s not. You’re rationalizing racism.
ObjectivityIncarnate@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Undocumented Chinese men say they're baffled by Trump's reported plans to deport them first31·7 months agoNo value judgment about an entire race is a fact.
You’re racist.
ObjectivityIncarnate@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Undocumented Chinese men say they're baffled by Trump's reported plans to deport them first4·7 months agohow can you think it is even possible to be racist against white people?
Very easy. If you make or agree with sweeping generalizations about a race, you are racist.
That’s what racism is.
ObjectivityIncarnate@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Undocumented Chinese men say they're baffled by Trump's reported plans to deport them first3·7 months agoFalse analogy, no one said anyone was racist against white people for saying they don’t support the US.
If you’re agreeing with someone who literally maligned a race, you are racist too. Period.

Literally never said that. I just pointed out that being the ‘wrong’ sex hurts you more than being the ‘wrong’ race.
White men get sentenced much more harshly than black women for the same crime, for example. That’s a fact.
ObjectivityIncarnate@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Kentucky student who used n-word 200 times and assaulted a Black woman in viral video is sentenced to jail34·9 months agoNone of that contradicts the simple point I made, which is that being a woman instead of a man is a vastly larger advantage in the US with respect to judicial leniency, than being white instead of another race, and yet certain biased people always seem to want to imply/argue that the latter is the primary factor, when it isn’t.
As an analogy, it’s kind of like how when people are talking about rape, discourse is typically more likely to center on ‘jumped in a dark alley’ type scenarios, even though the fact is that that is literally the least common way rape happens, and that statistically, it’s very rare for the assailant to be a stranger to the victim.
ObjectivityIncarnate@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Kentucky student who used n-word 200 times and assaulted a Black woman in viral video is sentenced to jail165·9 months agoIt’s not really for being a white girl, it’s primarily for being a girl.
Women get 63% lighter sentences for the same crimes as men ( https://academic.oup.com/aler/article-abstract/17/1/127/212179 ), while there is no racial gap between white and another race, whether among men, or women, that’s even half that wide ( https://www.ussc.gov/research/research-reports/2023-demographic-differences-federal-sentencing ).
ObjectivityIncarnate@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Kyle Rittenhouse texts pledging to ‘murder’ shoplifters disillusion his ex-spokesperson14·10 months agoDebunk the bullshit with facts? Yeah, that is what people with integrity try to do.
Though, a correction: I’m a defender of the truth, not of Rittenhouse. I have no attachment to the kid, but I hate deception, and I just happened to be curious enough to make myself very familiar with the facts of this case when it became a big controversy, and once I realized how many basic things were complete fabrications, it just made me more curious to get at the actual facts, instead of believing dipshits’ narratives in the media, especially those who had already taken a side based on their pre-existing political biases.
The fact that most of the bullshit still floating around about this case is still REALLY easily-debunked surface-level garbage that only a gullible, or a ‘true believer’ in one of those narratives (though I repeat myself) just makes it easier. Half of this shit is so blatantly wrong even the prosecution in the trial didn’t even TRY to argue it, lol.
I like correcting falsehoods, and making liars mad is fun, so here I am.
If you truly believe this, you need to take a step back from one or more echo chambers, because you’ve lost touch with reality.
Trump waffling on the topic, without any ‘hard’ evidence, has already caused momentum in the opposite direction.
