The language used is super interesting. “Defying Elon Musk”
Defying. A terrifying word, yet appropriate.
Musk has no position in the Wisconsin state government. He’s not a constituent. You shouldn’t be able to “defy” him because he has no position of authority.
Yet they used the word “defying” and it’s terrifyingly the correct word.
In America, shots get fired into people’s homes on a daily basis. That sort of thing doesn’t usually make even statewide news.
We should worry about fixing those other problems before worrying about some rich prick. If the rich person is so concerned about their safety, why don’t they just hire some private security?
I don’t see any reason why this is being treated as news.
I remember when Musk bought Twitter and then immediately started trying to save money by literally just turning off services to see what breaks.
That actually wouldn’t have been the stupidest idea if he had done it in a test environment rather than production, or even if Twitter was a small website that didn’t mind downtime. But he did it in production on a huge site that people relied on being up, so it actually was the stupidest idea.
And now he’s bringing the same stupidest energy to government. No investigation. No calculation. Just a toddler who has been put in front of a lot of switches.
This is what happens when politicians pander instead of listening to science.
I didn’t read the full article, but here are a couple of points from the part I read.
There is a movement called “harm reduction” that has been effective at fighting drug related deaths. (Last Week Tonight did a good piece on it.) The idea is that first, you try to make sure drug users aren’t harmed. So, drug testing strips and clean needles are provided. There may be safe injection locations where people can go to inject themselves. And obviously, they don’t get in trouble with police for doing this.
Only once you do your best to ensure their safety do you need to start helping them to kick the habit.
Texas has basically done the opposite and even fentanyl testing strips are classified as drug paraphernalia. And if you give someone fentanyl and they die, you can be charged with murder. So people in Texas are even afraid to call an ambulance when someone is overdosing.
The article asserts that these harmful policies are why Texas has a drug related death rate that remains high when the same statistic has been falling elsewhere in America.
That doesn’t rule out a ring.
I don’t think it’s so much YOLO as recognizing that Hunter would be a target of Trump once he assumes office.
It seems to me to be a form of self defense. People do things that they otherwise wouldn’t do when the alternative is bad enough.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s trying to become a media personality.
Honestly, it is such an obvious lie, too. Can companies really just lie in their filings to the FTC?
It’s actually a lot more difficult and expensive to send something to the sun than to send it to Mars.
He should use the money he has now to build a rocket and send himself to Mars. That way he won’t have to worry about US government programs anymore.
It’s just such an obvious and outrageous lie. If you believe that, you’ll believe anything.
Also, if it was happening, wouldn’t the parents be the ones complaining? I mean, wouldn’t the parents be famous right now? They’d be on all the talk shows making the news circuit.
If this actually happened, the parents’ names would be famous. Trump would be parading these people around.
This article is about an out of control DeSantis removing several elected Democrats from their positions because he disagreed with them (because they were Democrats), and replacing them with Republicans.
Apparently, that’s what passes for a democracy in Florida.
A carjacker pulled a gun on a person sitting in a car in front of Justice Sotomayor’s home, a place where it’s very possible that she might have been. It doesn’t matter whether she was targeted or not. If she dies for whatever reason, it’s a concern. Whoever Biden appoints would have to pass the Senate with the current razor thin majority.
Had she been in the car for some reason, then we might have another Ruth Bader Ginsberg moment, and in the worst case scenario, Trump could get reelected and appoint somebody for a 7-2 conservative majority in the Supreme Court.
Don’t get stuck in the idea that lifetime appointments are only a problem for assassinations. Ginsberg died of natural causes, and see what that got us.
I think that there are many serious inherent flaws with the idea of lifetime appointments, especially for the highest court in the land, and this is one of them.
I’ve recently become a fan of the idea that for Supreme Court justices, they have a fixed-length term, and each President gets to nominate a predetermined number of them.
Reminder that Trump doesn’t endorse people because they’re good for the country or even because they’re good for the party.
Trump endorses people only when it benefits himself. For example, he might force them to pledge personal loyalty to him, like he tried to do with James Comey.
These lawyers are trying to speak to the public through the court. It’s an irresponsible use of the court.
Adams knows it won’t be easy running as a Democrat for the House in the deep red northwestern corner of Montana. The district covers northern Lincoln County, a mecca for militia members or sympathizers and doomsday preppers. Republican Donald Trump won 74% of the county vote in the 2020 presidential race.
While Adams’ campaign may look like a fruitless undertaking, he doesn’t see it that way. For him it’s a chance to tell his own story — that of an “honest weirdo” who emerged from a traumatic childhood to find his own way in life. It’s also a chance to make the case for his own vision of how democracy and personal responsibility intertwine.

Also, any number whose digits sum to a multiple of 3 is divisible by 3. For 51, 5+1=6, and 6 is a multiple of 3, so 51 can be cleanly divided by 3.
Nobody with a shred of a conscience wants to work for a boss who does Nazi salutes in public.
That’s why Musk loves H1B visas, because you can treat them like slaves and it’s very hard for them to take an ethical stand.
