But I’m sure the politicians and bureaucrats who determine whether Musk’s businesses continue getting billions in taxpayer funded subsidies would sure like to know if the public is behind continuing to do that. I for one would consider it a bonus if say, the Democrats won control in November, looked at the numbers and decided none of their supporters are behind Musk, determined he’s been playing fast and loose using taxpayer dollars to fund pushing his own political agenda, and turned off the free ride.

Why do people need that so desperately? Is it really so much of a burden to wait a few minutes for the platforms those journalists work for to vet and publish the news on their own platforms? Is your personal and immediate input and reaction so important? It’s important to be fast rather than correct!

If these “trustworthy journalists” are posting information so quickly and spur of the moment that they aren’t checking things and ensuring their accuracy, they’re not as “trustworthy” as you think anyway.

Words can mean more than one thing, and people assume you’re intelligent enough to be able to put them in context and figure out which one you mean. If I say “The general gave an order”, you assume I don’t mean at Burger King. If you want hard definitions with one meaning only, perhaps I can recommend this?

It’s pretty consistent. Black men got the right to vote long before women too. The US has more deep rooted misogyny than racism, and it’s got plenty of racism.

I suppose that’s a fair point. I can’t make the claim I know that.

All I’m saying is, when people post these kinds of things, they’re likely not looking for platitudes or advice. If they wanted that, the title of the post would’ve been “someone help me”. It’s okay to let people vent about a situation that sucks for them without telling them all of the things you think they should be doing differently.

It’s also possible you’re talking to someone in the long tail of that bell curve who is already taking care of themselves. You are making a lot of assumptions and your attempt to push responsibility onto him when he may in fact be in the lowest percent of that bell curve, and if he is, your well-intentioned controversial opinion is like throwing salt in his wounds.

People always just assume they can do this with this problem. If someone has mental health issues, they tell them to seek help. If someone has physical issues, they tell them to see a doctor. If they have relationship issues, “Oh, it’s all your fault, man. Work on yourself.” even in the absence of ANY evidence.

I know it’s uncomfortable to think about the people in that bottom 1% of the bell curve who are completely helpless and overwhelmed, but victim blaming isn’t a good way to deal with it.
