When you are worth more money than many nations are, the elected officials will kowtow to you regardless of what the people may want.

It’s not scorecard wealth for the exact reason you state. It gives them elite status and gives them the power that comes with it.
When you are worth more money than many nations are, the elected officials will kowtow to you regardless of what the people may want.
