  • Yes, agreed. Why is this even in shitpost? I wonder if h0rni has ever tried a percolator. I don’t mind it while I’m camping, but when I’m home I prefer a Moka pot. I also want strong, bitter coffee. I can’t stand instant, but sometimes I will add it to my wife’s weak-ass brew. I can see through hers! I should never be able to see through my coffee.

A couple years ago, I got the French press kit for my Firemaple X1 to take camping. It’s super light and breaks down flat. The kit, not the X1 itself. But it’s so much more work to clean than a percolator! The grounds stick to the rough texture of the titanium walls, and I typically end up dribbling it over the edge and down the outside when I pour. That stains the neoprene sleeve and I have to then wash that. I’m thinking about going back to a percolator for camping, but that is so much extra room I’m already used to not needing to account for.

I suppose I could just bring my 2-cup Moka pot, that would be the happy medium. It’s smaller than a percolator, and easier to clean than the French press. The issue there is that if I’m not solo camping, I typically share the coffee. And nobody I go with likes the Moka pot.

    Tell me about your coffee!

  • Oh gosh, i did that a couple years ago. We had some people leave, including my manager. I was a lead engineer. I was also leaving, I was promised a position at a 27% increase in salary. But it is a big, international company and their HR was painfully slow at getting me an offer letter. It ended up being 3 weeks from interview to offer. In that time, I just had to sit through several rounds of meetings with the COO, restructuring our group. I was a pivotal part of this plan. Finally, he had the plan finalized. And I got my letter. Handed in my two weeks the same day. No regrets. Love the new place.

Also, that COO wad not an insignificant factor in people leaving.

  • I helped my dad install a new dumb thermostat last winter. We just had to drill a couple of new holes to mount it, and moved the wires over. Boom, there was heat again. I thought about how much of a pain in the ass it was to get my Ecobee working, and how refreshing it was to just have something work immediately.

It’s a very similar feeling to playing my GameBoy Color again after messing around with retro gaming linux handhelds. You just turn it on and play, then just turn it off. No boot sequences, no emulator settings to tweak. No SD card corruption that ruins your game library. Just on and off.

This makes me think of this clip of Mr. Girl where he sits his girlfriend down and tells her that her orgasm isn’t his responsibility, and goes on to express that he just cares about himself getting off, and pretty sure he said it would be better if she just laid there and didn’t make any noise.

This guy operates on a level of sarcasm that is so constant and extreme, I can’t tell what he’s serious about and what is some type of social commentary. A lot of things he says are so creepy and offensive, it’s just safer to avoid him altogether.
