I have blocked pretty much all their names and various connected terms by now, but my Lemmy feed still consists to a large extent of the nonsense and misinformation that these trolls spread on a daily basis to distract from their criminal activities.

There is simply no escaping the bullshit that spills out of the white house all over the world. Unfortunately, even less so because the local Nazis and the conservatives in my home country have long been using the same troll strategies that they have adopted from the US since they have proven effective in Europe as well.

I think Thomas, like many other influential people, knows very well that he doesn’t have to fear any consequences or even prosecution in this system, which this decision now confirms once again. I mean, Trump and his henchmen have already made sure that women are no longer allowed to control their own bodies, which I have to admit I thought was impossible in a Western country. What makes you think they’re going to leave it at taking away women’s right to a secret ballot? These people want to reverse advances in civilization like women’s right to vote all together. That’s what conservative means to them: back to the Middle Ages. In this sense, they are little different from other religious extremists such as the Taliban. Their goals might be a little different but their means are pretty much the same.

I know a guy who works for a pharmaceutical company that refused to supply a drug that is sometimes used in executions (not a poison, but a fast-acting anesthetic). After US prisons tried to order the drug through straw men and deliberately misrepresenting its use, the company stopped selling it to the US altogether. This is presumably a loss for US doctors, as this drug is typically used in trauma surgery. All the more reason to finally abolish the death penalty - it is barbaric anyway.

I watched the debate between Trump and Biden and could hardly believe that there were no fact checks at all from the moderators. Sure, it would have been good if Biden had pointed out more clearly that almost every statement Trump made was factually incorrect. But can you really just tell any tall tales in your presidential debates without even mentioning any facts? That seems absurd. Is that the norm for presidential debates in the US? Or is it just that Trump would not have participated if there were fact checks?
