Definitely, at least with this Dell laptop circa 2007 - I didn’t want to cause a fire and iirc, the battery was already trashed at its EOL. Pulling the battery at least let me power on the laptop without any risk from having the battery inserted.

I’m moving soon and was packing up my office closet. Found my old college laptop and figured I better make sure nothing was stored on it before I tossed it. Pulled the removable battery (‼️⁉️) out and plugged in the power adapter. I couldn’t believe that it started Windows XP off of spinning rust faster than any modern device I own. They really don’t make them like they used to.
They missed the good times. No rush now.
It’s a shame that it’s only the companies with more money than God that feel comfortable standing up for their values. The Felon will attack anyone who disagrees with them, and while everyone gets mad about nobody standing up to him - that’s not exactly a zero risk scenario for most. But for these hundred billion and trillion dollar companies, they know they can defend themselves just fine.

right to workstate, so I understand that. But not every state is an at-willright to workstate, and surely the way federal employees are treated is legislated differently and not on a state level. Do federal employees have zero protections?

Tilgare@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•The Supreme Court decides not to disenfranchise thousands of swing state voters3·8 months agoAn expert witness who testified in the RNC case estimated that “approximately one-third of a [percent] of non-Hispanic White voters [in Arizona] are Federal-Only Voters, while a little more than two-thirds of a percent of minority voters are Federal-Only Voters.” So the universe of voters who registered using the federal form isn’t that large, but it is disproportionately non-white, which likely explains the GOP’s interest in this case — among other things, Republicans wanted to prevent these federal-only voters from casting a vote for president.
In 2020, President Joe Biden lost white Arizona voters, but very narrowly won the state due to his strong performance among Latinos. Biden’s margin of victory was only about three-tenths of a percent, so even a small shift in who was allowed to vote in Arizona might have changed the result.
I can’t parse this. They can’t possibly be saying 0.33% of non-Hispanic white voters are federal only.

I agree that giving up tipping would require us to also support the workers getting a fair wage. But the whole rest of the world has proven your “shitty service” theory entirely wrong - they are able to pay food service workers properly AND give great service, and I suspect the whole world would chime in with a wealth of experience. And not paying slave labor wages doesn’t drive the cost of goods up as much as the capitalists would lead you to believe. Again, proven by the entirety of Europe.

There’s also the claim that it was sent too early, so regardless of what the error was, these were going to be the demands all along. They were just moving much slower in the discussion prior to the letter being sent. A wise attempt to boil the frog, and then somebody moved the pot over a rocket engine.
