  • Tesla believes it is better at reporting crash data than its competitors, and so the discrepancy in numbers makes them look bad.

It’s almost as though leaving safety and associated reporting requirements in the hands of private business doesn’t work out for consumers. If only there was some public institution that would hold all vehicle manufacturers accountable and enforce reporting requirements. I cannot possibly imagine how that would work though. /s

  • I searched for the actual question text and found:

Q19a. The immigrants entering the country illegally today are poisoning the blood of our country.

The split was 14% completely agreed and 20% mostly agreed.

I’m not as surprised by the results as the headline would have suggested because of the use of the word illegally. It biases the question negatively.

The 20% who mostly agreed may have agreed with some negative connotation surrounding illegal immigration while ignoring the racism of “poisoning the blood.” In other words, if I put myself in the shoes of someone who feels strongly about securing the border, I could understand how those respondents would lean towards agree simply because of the use of the word “illegal.”

To further support this interpretation: In the same survey, more than 40% of respondents favor or strongly favor building a wall along the US-Mexico border.

Maybe I’m just optimistic that only around an eighth of the country is completely crazy and that is just a less clickbaity title.

  • Bash said: "But what I wanna ask you about is what he said last month. He suggested that you ‘happened’ to turn Black recently for political purposes, questioning a core part of your identity.”

Where was the question? That’s simply a statement about what Trump said.

Politico’s headline is outrageous, but what was Bash even trying to do here? Because it reads like she was trying to ask (without asking) if Harris is black, which is just as weird and absurd as Trump’s original comment.

Harris’s reply is great because it applies both to Trump’s racism and the problem with journalists giving these comments anything more than ridicule.

  • My assumption is Trump and his top advisors all have regular and friendly dealings with foreign adversaries.

So I expect this was less of a security breach and more of an accidental disclosure along with other intentionally disclosed information. Something along the lines of an assistant was asked to email the candidate dossiers and oppo research, and they zipped up the entire folder sitting on their desktop named “candidates”.

  • The statement from Planned Parenthood includes:

Despite the Attorney General’s demand that PPSLR turn over all patient medical records related to gender-affirming care, the court ruled that individual patient records remain protected — a major victory for patients’ privacy rights.

I suspect this means the AG may receive de-identified records including procedure or diagnosis information, but not including any patient identifying information such as patient or billing account, name, address, social, date of birth, date of service, etc.

It could also include aggregate information about providers and facilities, especially if records are obtained under the guise of a fraud investigation, allowing the AG to target locations and providers where patients frequently obtain specific services. That route might be the most harmful to patients, for ex. if they’re unable to continue receiving care because of harassment of the providers.
