Yes, I agree. I meant the point about heaven 🙂.
I know it’s shitposting, but even if we accept the idea that God would be interested by what you do with your own body when you’re alone, isn’t the whole point of the Bible that you don’t have to climb to go to heaven, but accept God’s grace?
I.don’t understand evangelicalism.
Zloubida@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•27 religious groups sue to protect immigrants from ICE raids at churches4·2 months agoYeah, add division between whose who fight these reforms. That’s exactly what the people in America needs.
Calvin was totally opposed to this kind of theology. I presume you’re referencing to Weber; but if you read The Protestant Ethic closely, he didn’t speak about mainstream Calvinism of his time, but German puritanism, which was opposed by mainstream Calvinism.
There are many possible points of disagreement within Christianity because, like it or not, the Bible is unclear and even contradicts itself on many subjects (and this is a Christian saying this). But prosperity theology is so clearly the opposite of everything in the Bible that any self-respecting evangelical should ostracize it. That they don’t is the proof that the gospel is not what many evangelicals are interested in.
A friend of mine grew near a Catholic monastery which fabricated wafers. The nuns gave the offcuts to the children, and they ate them with Nutella.

Zloubida@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Macron’s Liberal Coup [Maxime Benatouil | 02.08.2024 | tribunemag.co.uk]1·9 months agoThe article is quite good, I just disagree with this sentence :
Proof of this came just a few days after the NFP’s victory, when she co-signed an op-ed calling on the left to compromise with Macron so that a centrist majority could emerge — in other words, to betray left-wing voters
That wasn’t at all the idea of this op-ed. It was a call for concessions in order to govern, not to create a majority with macronists. For some, any concession is a compromission…
Zloubida@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Satanists to volunteer in Florida schools in protest at DeSantis religious bill21·10 months agoIt’s probably an unpopular opinion, but if public school chaplain positions are open to everyone, if they provide spiritual counsel to students who want it, without proselytizing or coercing students into religious activities, and if their work is controlled by the school to stay sure they don’t contradict scientific teachings and respect the psychological development and freedom of children, they can be a good thing. Secular France has this kind of chaplains, and it’s great; somehow I don’t believe it’s possible today in Florida.
That’s not a shitpost, that’s essentially the gospels.
