- I’ve only ever heard Beryl as a woman’s name, although I don’t see a problem with a man or a nonbinary person using it. It’s a bizarre claim though. It’s like saying Mary is a ‘nonbinary name.’ Technically true because Donald is also a nonbinary name for the same reason.
More importantly though…
- Hurricanes don’t have a fucking gender.
I’ve heard some of them self identify as typhoons
I see, We really should check if they see themselves as agender or nonbinary then.
People with “Jr” in their name don’t get to make fun of other names.
Especially when their dad doesn’t even love them.

I usually say this about the comments, but this is about the article itself.
I would not say the most prominent LGBT+ news outlet is trolling. They report on bigotry. It’s part of their job.
And this guy saying he thinks Beryl is a non-binary name isn’t bigotry. Perhaps they’re targeting him for something else that he did that was bigoted? Did he do something else like that?
This is the sort of thing that a non-queer person coming from a position of privilege would say.
But is it weird? Beryl is a decidedly androgynous name.
What’s weird is that his saying this turned into a news story.
There is a judge - Beryl Howell - who has given some (correctly) unfavorable rulings in Trump cases. Can’t help but think he’s talking about the name because of her.
Guess we’ll never know unless someone wastes the energy to find out.
