I’ll work 60-70 hour weeks in the summer, but it’s my own company and it’s our busy season. This allows me to work 20 hrs/week in the winter and not stress. My guys can work OT all they want, but it isn’t mandatory.
People telling me that at my old job worked 60-80 hours a week. Was always like 🤨.
I worked at a place that had crazy hours. People worked their tails off.
Early on, I told them I was only going to do 9-5. Management was shocked that I actually kept that schdule. Unlimited vacation but no one used it…except me.
It didn’t matter in the end. The entire company went bankrupt when the 2 founders committed bank fraud (they are now in jail). It didnt matter how much we worked, if the people in charge are dumb. I still got paid just as much as everyone else in the end, except I got to see my family/friends for that span of time.
Work to live not live to work.
Exactly. Like how most HR folks will tell you that statistically companies with unlimited PTO, people use less. Those studies are incredibly flawed, as they are using data to support a preexisting conclusion. It always starts at the top. If you don’t have a culture of working to live then the numbers will never show you the opposite.
Did they work 60 hours a week, or try to get you to do it? Or both?
I lived 5 minutes away from an old job years ago. One day the manager asked why I never stayed late (they never authorised overtime) I just walked out the room nothing I could say would improve that situation.
Why did he ask? Did anyone else stay late?
I have to record 40 hours on my time sheet to bill clients and show where my time goes. 2 weeks recently I only clocked 36 and 37. Haven’t seen the fallout for it yet, new rule started Jan 1st we have to put 40 or we’ll get in trouble.
Well this past week I’m up to 50+, it’s been so good damn busy. So if I get in trouble, I will stop working at 40 going forward. I’ll get my time in and boom, phone will go to voicemail rest of the week. Waiting to see how this plays out.
Other people were staying later but my position was helpdesk which ended with the end of the days business.
I feel you on the time sheets I’m in a position where I have to get to 40 hours a week, luckily I can put admin or internal meetings down. On a slow week I can add hours for self training
I need to find a HQ version of this meme
